Giftable Treats

This treat doesn’t just have to be made around Christmas but it seems that is the time of year where we are searching for easy and giftable treats. So I figured this was a good time to share this Christmas Cracker Toffee recipe with all of you!

You’re just going to use four ingredients to bring together this delicious treat. Saltine crackers, butter, brown sugar, and dark chocolate make the perfect combination. This recipe has a few keys points to be successful.

Christmas Cracker Toffee – Keys to Success

First, make sure to prep the cookie sheet with foil AND non stick spray. This will ensure your ability to remove the crackers later to store them.

Second, be sure to layer out the crackers in a single layer to allow for best absorption of the toffee liquid mixture.

Third, get creative with your toppings! There is so much freedom in decorating however you want!

Ingredients

Saltines are such a great base for this cracker candy and easy to find at any grocery store.

Butter and brown sugar come together as the toffee candy. I used to think that making candy was so tough – I honestly avoided it during the holidays – but this recipe is so simple, I was pleased with its ease. Dark chocolate is quite literally the “icing” on top because it adds just the right amount of sweetness without being over the top.

Christmas Cracker Toffee – Year Round

There is a delicious balance in these treats that is cravable year round! I cannot wait to see what you and your gift recipients think when you give it a try. Let me know in the comments!

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg saltine crackers
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown Truvia or brown sweetener of your choice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 12oz pkg dark chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Line a baking sheet with foil and make sure it goes up the sides. Spray foil thoroughly with nonstick spray.
  • Lay out saltine crackers on foil-lined cookie sheet, breaking in to pieces if needed to completely fill the sheet.
  • In a small saucepan, melt butter. Stirring occasionally.
  • Add brown Truvia and stir. Bring mixture to a boil and let it boil for 3 minutes stirring occasionally to that it doesn't burn.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract
  • Spread caramel mixture over saltine crackers – using spatula to spread out as evenly as possible.
  • Bake for 5 minutes, remove from oven and sprinkle dark chocolate chips then put back into oven for 1 minute.
  • Remove cookie sheet and use spatula to spread melted chocolate chips around.
  • This is where you can get creative with your toppings – add sprinkles, nuts, peppermint pieces, or whatever you would like while the chocolate is still melty
  • Let cool for 20 minutes then place cookie sheet in the fridge for 3 hours
  • Once chilled, remove foil from cookie sheet and place on flat surface where you can cut or break off pieces to serve and enjoy!
  • I like to bag up these pieces and keep them in the freezer throughout the holiday season to enjoy whenever I have a craving!
