I cannot tell you how excited I am for this next monthly mini series! Mug cakes are something I picked up while I was pregnant with my first kiddo and I never stopped loving them. They are the best after meal treat, take few ingredients, and are ready in a matter of minutes. You just can’t beat them.

This month I am celebrating my birthday and wanted to share this little piece of heaven in a mug with all of you! First up, we have CHOCOLATE LAVA MUG CAKE. How can you get anymore classic? It’s truly a crowd favorite.

Indulgent Chocolate Lava Mug Cake

My mug cakes can be shared but are certainly not too much to eat by yourself. I will say that because they are made with lighter ingredients, you don’t feel overwhelmed when you are done. I like to call them my “not so guilty” pleasure.

Chocolate lava mug cakes feel extra indulgent because of that melted chocolate in the middle that gets into every bite. I wanted to create a recipe that still gave you that indulgent feeling without the guilt that follows. I found that using dark chocolate, truvia sweetener, and almond flour helps to balance that craving for something sweet while being mindful of a person’s health goals. It’s the best of both worlds!

“Not So Guilty” Pleasure

Dark chocolate provides antioxidants. Almond flour (or protein powder should you choose) provides protein. Truvia sweetener keeps it sugar-free and lower calorie. These simple changes make all the difference in chocolate lava mug cakes!

Chocolate Lava Mug Cake

Ingredients
  

  • 2 TBSP Almond Flour
  • 1 TBSP Ground Flaxseed
  • 1 TBSP Cocoa
  • 2 TBSP Truvia or your granular sweetener of choice
  • 1 TBSP Butter softened
  • 3 TBSP Almond Milk
  • A few Dark Chocolate Chips

Instructions
 

  • Mix all ingredients in a coffee mug
  • Microwave for 1min or 1min 30seconds depending on the power of your microwave.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

I have even placed a scoop of peanut butter on top for a little extra indulgent flavor!
